How do you track clicks in an email?
You replace each link with a short link that carries the recipient’s token. When someone taps it, the click is recorded and they are forwarded to the real destination immediately. Unlike an open, a click cannot be triggered by the mail app itself.
Why it matters
Cannot be faked by a mail app
A click requires a deliberate tap, so unlike an open it is not generated by privacy proxies or image prefetching.
Works in plain text
No image is involved, so click tracking keeps working where open tracking is impossible.
Ties through to what happened next
Clicks flow through the same links as the rest of directinapp, so device, country and app context come with them.
Set it up
Three steps, no developer
01
Shorten your destination
Create a directinapp link for whatever the email points at.
02
Append the recipient parameter
Every copy carries its own token, so each reply is attributable to one person.
03
Send
Nothing else changes about how you send.
04
See who tapped
Click rate for the campaign, plus which recipients clicked.
Watch it end to end: recipients, snippets, per-person results
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does click tracking slow the reader down?+
No. The redirect is a single hop measured in milliseconds, and the reader lands on your real destination.
What is a good email click rate?+
Commonly cited benchmarks sit around 2–5% for broad sends and much higher for small, targeted lists. Because clicks are measured the same way everywhere, it is a fairer comparison than open rate.
Can I see which link a recipient clicked?+
Yes — each link is its own short link, so clicks are attributed per link as well as per recipient.
