One campaign, every platform: how to track the same link across your socials

Run one offer across Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and your newsletter and a single link tells you nothing about where taps came from. Here is how to split it so every channel reports for itself.

You track one campaign across platforms by creating a separate short link for each channel that points at the same destination. Each link keeps its own click count, so you can compare channels for the same offer instead of lumping all the traffic into one number.

A festive-season offer goes out everywhere at once: an Instagram post, a WhatsApp broadcast, a YouTube mention, a line in your newsletter. If you share the same link in all of them, every tap lands in one undifferentiated pile, and you finish the campaign knowing it worked overall but not which channel carried it.

One destination, many links

The fix is simple: make a separate short link for each channel, all pointing at the same product or landing page. The Instagram link, the WhatsApp link and the newsletter link are different short links with the same destination, so link analytics counts each channel on its own while your visitors all reach the same place.

Where UTMs fit in

UTM tags do a related job: they label the source so a tool like Google Analytics can group the traffic. Short links and UTMs work well together, the short link giving you a clean, tappable address with its own count and an app-open on mobile, the UTM carrying the source label downstream. There is a fuller walkthrough in UTM tracking for short links.

Read the channels side by side

Because every link points at the same offer at the same price, the comparison is fair: any difference in taps is a difference in the channel, not the deal. That is what turns "the campaign did well" into "WhatsApp drove three times the taps of the newsletter for this offer", which is the sentence you can actually act on next time.

Then tie it to sales

Taps rank the channels by interest; to rank them by money, connect the tap to the order with conversion tracking. Now a quiet channel that drives real purchases beats a loud one that only gathers clicks, and you know exactly where to spend the next campaign.
