Instagram Stories links: how to see which story drove the taps

A Story link disappears in 24 hours, and Instagram tells you almost nothing about who tapped it. Here is how to track Story links so each one carries its own count.

You track an Instagram Story link by using a short link as its destination, so every tap is recorded before the viewer is forwarded on. Because a Story vanishes in 24 hours, a per-Story short link is the only way to know afterwards which Story actually drove the clicks.

A lot of India’s casual shopping starts in Instagram Stories: a link sticker on a new product, a swipe through to your shop, an order that begins with a tap. The frustrating part is that Stories vanish after 24 hours and Instagram’s own numbers are thin, so you post five Story links a week and never really know which one sent people through.

Why Story links are hard to track

Two things work against you. A Story is gone in a day, so there is no lasting place to check the result, and the link sticker reports views far more clearly than it reports taps by source. Once the Story expires, whatever it drove expires with it unless you captured the tap somewhere you control.

Use a fresh short link per Story

Give each Story its own short link as the sticker destination. The link keeps counting long after the Story disappears, so tomorrow you can still see exactly how many taps that product Story earned. On a phone a short Instagram link also opens the destination in its native app rather than a logged-out browser, which is where a tap turns into a follow or an order.

What you learn

With a link per Story, link analytics shows which Story, which product and even which time of day drew the most taps, plus the device and location behind them. Run the same offer as a plain photo Story and as a video Story with different links, and you can see which format your audience actually taps.

From a tap to an order

A Story tap is intent; the sale is the point. Tie the tap to the order with conversion tracking and a Story becomes measurable all the way through, so you can judge it by what it sold rather than by how many people watched it.

The quick version

Put a fresh short link behind every Story link sticker, and its count outlives the 24-hour window. Read taps by Story to learn which product, format and timing work, then tie the taps to orders when the goal is a sale. Start with the Instagram link tool.
